After winning their first two games of the year, someone finally got the best of David Emanuel Academy’s varsity baseball team. The Eagles experienced their first loss of the year this past Friday, March 5, losing 9-3 in Game 1 of a 5-inning doubleheader at home in Stillmore against Covenant Academy. The team righted the ship in Game 2, however, winning a tight one, 5-4.
DEA’s bats were relatively quiet in the first game of the afternoon, minus the efforts of Timothy Braddock, Rylie Rowland, and Clayton Hood.
Braddock led the Eagle offense, going 2-2 with a double, a walk, and 1 run scored. Rowland was 2-3 and scored 1 run. Hood earned himself a double and scored the remaining 1 run for Game 1.
Both games required a collective effort from David Emanuel’s pitching staff. Dane Arrington, a senior, continues to lead the way on the hill; he threw 3 complete innings in Game 1, ringing up two Rams in the process. Hood threw 1.1 innings, and Brayden Smith threw the remaining .2 innings.
David Emanuel used the loss as motivation and delivered more offense for a gritty win.
Free of pitching duties, Arrington walked once, doubled once, and scored 2 runs. Racy Faircloth went 1-2 at the plate and scored 1 run. Smith went 1-3 while Hood walked once, doubled once, and scored 1 run. Cavan Calhoun had 1 walk and scored the remaining 1 run.
Rowland, Braddock, and Calhoun all split time on the mound with Rowland going a majority of the distance, throwing 3 innings, striking out 2. Braddock, through his .2 innings of work, struck out 1 batter, as did Calhoun in his 1.1 innings on the hill.
With these latest results, the varsity team moved to 3-1 on the year. The Eagles beat Central Fellowship Christian in the team’s February 22 opener, then beat Fullington on February 25.
On David Emanuel’s slate this week are Robert Toombs Christian Academy and Twiggs Aacdemy. The Eagles traveled to Lyons to take on RTCA on Tuesday, March 8, but results were unavailable at press time. They will play Twiggs in Jeffersonville on March 11. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Look for results in next week’s Chronicle.
