Dennis “Jerrell” Whitfield, 69

Funeral services for Dennis “Jerrell” Whitfield, 69 of Twin City, were held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter with Pastor Kip Boswell officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery in Twin City. Visitation was Monday, November 29, 2021, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter. He passed Saturday morning, November 27, 2021 at his residence.
Born in Emanuel County on January 5, 1952, Mr. Dennis “Jerrell” Whitfield was a son of the late B. D. Whitfield, Jr. and Charlotte Dasher Whitfield. He was a member of the Blackville Church of God in Adrian. A loving husband for 48 years, Mr. Whitfield was a well-known farmer in Emanuel County for all of those years. He was a 1969 graduate of Emanuel County Institute, and Mr. Whitfield continued his education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was a devoted church member, serving as Bible teacher, musician, and technical support manager for many years. He traveled as a musician with the gospel singing group, The Buxton Family, and the Hudson Brothers and Angie for several years ministering in many area churches. His passion was playing the bass guitar while ministering to others the gospel of Jesus Christ through his music. Mr. Whitfield was gifted with a great sense of humor to those who knew him, and he lived a life that mattered, focusing on serving others and living a life of faith and devotion to his Lord. He will be greatly missed by a multitude of family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Braswell Whitfield; two siblings, Janice (David) Hinely of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bennett (Linda) Whitfield of Twin City; three nieces, Kristen (Allen) Mosley and Melissa (Howard) Porter of Twin City and Amorette Reid of Charlotte; three great-nieces, Railyn and Allie Porter and Peyton Mosley; three great-nephews, Issac Mosley, Whit Porter, and Preston Reid; numerous other nieces and nephews; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers were Mark Hudson, Dwayne Hudson, Allen Mosley, Howard Porter, Daniel Meade, and Donald Braswell. Honorary Pallbearers were Steve Lane, Fred Young, James Meade, Phillip Warnock, Dennis Cauley, Flag Bostic, Robert Burke, James Cannady. G.W. Johnson, Jeremy Page, and Luke Lanier.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter was in charge of arrangements.
