Donald Gene “Don” Morris, 84


Funeral services for Donald Gene “Don” Morris, 84 of Swainsboro, were held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. John David Durden and Dustin Durden officiating. The family received family and friends Friday, February 25, 2022 at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment followed at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Twin City. He died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Cedar Plantation in Metter.


Mr. Donald Gene “Don” Morris was born September 15, 1937 in Oak Park, Emanuel County, to the late Ranzie Turner Morris and Sudie Coleman Morris. In his youth, he was an active member of Emanuel County 4-H and in 1955 was Chief of Muscogee Tribe at Rock Eagle 4-H Camp. He was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and for 24 years, he was Director of Career Counseling with Swainsboro Technical College. Mr. Morris was a devoted loving husband, father, and grandfather and a member of Scarboro Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Mae Wells Morris; sons, David Durden and Wendell Durden; sisters, Christine Morris and Matalice Kelly; and brother, Eugene Morris.


Survivors include daughter-in-law, Zebe Durden Henry (Cooper) of Twin City; grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Carreon (Joseph), John David Durden (Jeana), and Dustin Durden (Sherrie); great-grandchildren, David Durden II, Zoe Durden, Evan Durden, Daniel Durden, Abigail Durden, Mary Katherine Durden, and Samuel Durden; and great-great-grandchild, Adler Hickman.


Pallbearers were Daniel Durden, David Durden, Evan Durden, Donnie Wells, Ricky Collins, and Ray Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Swainsboro Tech retirees.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
