Donaldson to hold public hearing for District 12

State Board of Education member Matt Donaldson will hold a public hearing for citizens in the 12th Congressional District on Monday, April 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. inside Metter Pre K-8’s Big Wood Room. The facility is located at 33661 Highway 129 South Metter, GA 30439.
The purpose of the hearing, according to Donaldson, is to hear comments from interested citizens and educators within the congressional district regarding K-12 public education. Those wishing to speak should sign in upon arrival.

The 12th Congressional District includes Richmond, Burke, Jenkins, Screven, Emanuel, Treutlen, Laurens, Wheeler, Montgomery, Toombs, Candler, Bulloch, Evans, Tattnall, Appling, Jeff Davis, and Coffee counties, along with portions of Columbia, Effingham, and McDuffie counties.
Donaldson was appointed to this position by Governor Brian Kemp in January 2021. He joins 13 other board members across that same number of congressional districts today serving on the Georgia Board of Education.
The Georgia Board of Education oversees public education throughout the state, ensuring laws and regulations pertaining to education are followed and that state and federal money appropriated for education is properly allocated to local school districts.
The GBOE manages the $13.3 billion state educatin budget, which accounts for an estimated 40 percent of the entire state budget.
Donaldson serves as chairman of the Budget Committee and parliamentarian.
