“Downtown GetDown” was huge success!

Updated: Apr 20

By Ron Moore

This past Saturday, April 1st, in Downtown Swainsboro was definitely the place to be. The City of Swainsboro hosted its first ever FIRST SATURDAY DOWNTOWN GETDOWN' and the people came out. This event was representative of one Mayor Greg Bennett’s campaign issues: the rebranding, revitalization, and reactivation of our downtown. Swainsboro residents typically have to travel to surrounding cities, like Metter, Vidalia, Macon, Augusta, Statesboro, Pooler, and even Savannah, to experience the diversity and variety of live music and food that was available at Saturday’s event.

"This was a targeted effort to make sure as many local vendors were included to participate in this event as possible, as well as the live entertainment so we could represent the city of Swainsboro’'s diverse culture", says Ron Moore, the event coordinator for the DOWNTOWN GETDOWN. The Perpetual Motion Band, the Lige Moore 4 Band and Klave Quattro made this list of live entertainment along with smooth music from Mr. Lee, a legendary local DJ. Local and out of town food truck vendors included Real South BBQ, Ware's BBQ, Dinner & Desserts to Go by YO, Big Dawgs from Twin City, Gibson's BBQ and More, Queen B Incredible Taste, Tacos Lachona, A Forceful Taste and Big Dog Snow Cones, and Willyum's and AfterAte. The Christian Motorcycle Association Motorcycle Club provided free water for this event. Look for more FIRST SATURDAY DOWNTOWN GETDOWN events to follow in the near future the next being on July 1st. More details to follow.
