EAC holds art reception for ‘Gas Money’

By Jacquie Brasher

The Kalmanson Gallery of Emanuel Arts Council held an opening reception for the “Gas Money” exhibition on Nov. 17th with the artist Chris Mattingly zooming in from California.

EAC board member Russell Lamb and Gallery Director Desmal Purcell installed a projector and screen so that the audience could interact with the artist. It was a triumph of engineering and artistry! During the artist talk, Chris played the banjo, read some of his poetry, and also answered questions from the audience.

Chris talked about how food and music thread the whole show together, and about how his memories of food cooked by his grandmother shaped several of his pieces.

This show marks the last one for 2022. Six new exhibitions will be featured in The Kalmanson Gallery in 2023. For more information on programming, check out the EAC on Facebook and Instagram.
