Head coach Clint Inman and assistant coach Daniel Flowers have gotten their 2022 varsity baseball team at David Emanuel Academy off on the right foot. The Eagles did just enough to beat Covenant Academy in the season opener played in Stillmore on Friday.
In route to the 3–2 win, a familiar name on the diamond for David Emanuel led the way offensively. Rylie Rowland was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and 1 run scored.
Brody Fleming and Cavan Calhoun split time on the mound. Calhoun is credited with the win while Fleming is credited for the save. Although underfreshmen, both of these pitchers will be expected to lead the Eagles on the hill this year.
Fleming himself a day offensively as well. At the plate he went 1-for-3 with 1 run scored.
Richard Braddy walked twice and scored the Eagles’ remaining 1 run.
Jay Carter was 1-for-3 with a double during the outing against Covenant. Riley Griner rounded out the offense, going 1-for-3 himself with a stolen base.
The Eagles resumed baseball action on Monday, taking on Fullington on the road. David Emanuel also played John Hancock on Tuesday. Look for those results as well as results from a March 3 away match-up against Central Georgia Arts, a March 8 away match-up against Saint Andrews, and a March 9 home game versus Portal in next week’s Crossroads.
