East Georgia’s Fulford Center hosts annual chess tournament

The Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center at East Georgia State College hosted the Fulford Center Annual Chess Tournament on Saturday, October 9.
The tournament was open to surrounding schools who have a chess club or students who compete in chess tournaments throughout the year. More than 30 elementary, middle, and high school students attended the tournament directed by Jay Youngblood.
Individual awards and section awards were presented to participants. The first place winner in the tournament was Sukumar Paidi from Vidalia High school. Alex Tusing from Lafayette Christian School received the second place award, and Max Parris from Alleluia Community School placed third. The following participants received section awards: Gaige Brantley and Thomas Betsill from Vidalia Heritage Academy; Michael Morgan, Isabel Kelly, and Titus Nehring from Lafayette Christian School; and Omar Cruz from Trinity Christian School. The Tournament Director Section Winner was Seth McGregor from Vidalia High School.
The Fulford Center would like to thank the schools and students who participated in the tournament and Youngblood for overseeing the event.
