ECI baseball dominates the weekend on the diamond

The Bulldogs were ready to get back on the field after a long week off. Next on the schedule was the annual Citizens Bank Invitational Tournament. They were set to play South Effingham and Swainsboro until South Effingham dropped out, this meant they would take on Screven County instead.
In game one against Screven, the Dawgs only needed four innings to win the game as they totaled 16 runs on 12 hits. Bryce Kearson, Lawson Mercer, Hudson Henry, Jack Walden, and Gabe Lee all had multi-hit games. Andrew Chalkley got the start for the Dawgs and he was spectacular going all four innings while giving up no hits and striking out two.
Game two for the Dawgs was a rematch with Swainsboro who they defeated in the first game of the year. Senior Lawson Mercer got the start for the Dawgs, he went four and two-thirds innings allowing only three runs and picking up the victory for the Dawgs. Kearson came in relief to finish this one out, allowing two runs in second and a third innings. The bats stayed hot early in this one as the Bulldogs tacked on seven runs in the second inning and rode that out while adding some insurance along the way. The leading hitter was Senior PJ Farnum going 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. The Bulldogs would take the Tigers down again, 12-5. With these two wins, ECI improves to 4-2 on the season.
The Dawgs have three games on the schedule this week. The first game was Tuesday, February 28 at home against Burke County. There were no results as of press time. The next game will be Thursday, March 2 at Southeast Bulloch, and finally at Burke County on Saturday, March 4. This should be a great week of baseball as these teams have matched up well in year’s past.
