ECI cheerleaders take second in debut performance

Emanuel County Institute returned to competitive cheerleading this past Saturday, opening its season at Vidalia High’s Sweet Onion Classic, and the Lady Dawgs didn’t disappoint, returning to Twin City with a second place finish after a multi-year hiatus from the sport.

Coaches Tabatha Downer and Jeana Durden are excited to help bring this program back to the students of ECI. While becoming familiar with the rules, regulations, and scoring rubric, Swainsboro High coaches Luci and Bob McNeeley have been helpful in leading the new coaches in the right direction and helping them learn the ins and outs of the cheer competition world.

ECI’s squad was extremely excited to get back on the mat and represented the school well. They had a great performance on October 9 and brought home second place behind Savannah’s private school, Calvary Day.

This week, the team hopes to expand on their stunting skills and add to their pyramid. The group will also work hard on standing and running tumbling.

The cheer Dawgs will be back in action this Saturday, October 16, at Georgia Southern University for the Gamecock Challenge at Hanner Fieldhouse at noon. Look for results in a future edition of The Chronicle.
