A pair of Bulldog pitchers combined for 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits to take Game 1 against region foe Screven County.
Joseph Stewart would return to the strong form he began the 2021 season with. He would pitch 5 strong innings, recording three strikeouts without allowing a run. Bryce Kearson would throw the final two innings, striking out two Gamecock batters.
Pitching was strong for Screven as well. Twelve Bulldogs would reach base, but timely hits would evade the offense through most of the contest. Leading the way at the plate was Trey Hughes and Pj Farnum, each recording 2 hits. Jack Walden and Hughes had an RBI each. Dawgs took Game 1 3-0.
Per usual, the Dawgs would turn to the senior Hughes to close out the week. Hughes’ dominance would continue as he would go the distance striking out four Gamecock hitters while scattering 3 hits.
The offense started early and kept their foot on the gas throughout the game. The Dawgs would run the starting pitcher off the mound after recording just a single out. The next two pitchers would be unable to slow down the momentum as the Dawgs plated 11 runs on 15 hits. Kearson would prove unbeatable at the plate going 4-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Walden would go 3-4 with 3 RBI. Hughes, Natavus Robertson, and Hudson Henry would all record 2 hits with Robertson and Henry adding 2 RBI each. The Dawgs won 11-1.
This week, the Dawgs took on the Portal Panthers on Monday and Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.
On Wednesday, ECI will attempt to avenge an early season loss to Southeast Bulloch. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Joe Harvey Field.
