ECI football drops close one to MCA

By Justin Gray

The ECI Bulldogs had a tough road test this week at McIntosh County Academy. Both teams were competing in this game in honor of Braxton Oliver, MCA was a class act as they took the field with a red #58 on their helmets. This game was setting up to be hard fought and the winner would sit in the driver’s seat to be the region champ. They needed to be great in every facet of the game to pull out this victory.

The Bulldogs were successful on the offensive side of the ball. PJ Farnum had 22 carries for 104 yards, and Bryce Kearson had six carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. The passing game was as good as it has been, Kearson threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The leading receiver was Cord Lee with three receptions, 70 yards, and two touchdowns.

The defense was good and once again was led by Hudson Henry. The Bulldogs fell short in this one though 28-21. Coach Kearson said, “Emotional game for our coaches and players, I’m proud of their ability to not only show up but play for 48 minutes. We had our chances but came up short. MCA has a very good team with great team speed. We’ll have a short turnaround to get ourselves together for a very good Jenkins Co team.” This week the schedule holds a tough test against a 5-3 Jenkins County squad. With MCA being the driver’s seat for the region championship, the winner of this game, more than likely gets a home playoff game. This game is Thursday, October 27, at 7:30 P.M. in Twin City.
