ECI manhandles Bucaneers

The ECI Bulldogs made the long ride to Darien Friday night to take on the McIntosh County Academy Bucaneers. It was homecoming for the Bucs, but the Bulldogs would ruin the festivities.

The game began with the Buccaneers rolling down the field until the Dogs intercepted an MCA pass. On the ensuing drive, a huge 50-yard run by P.J. Farnum set up Daquan Jones to plow through the Bucaneer defense for the game’s first touchdown. Samuel McBride was right down the middle on the PAT, and ECI had an early 7-0 lead.

Oisin Matthews kicked a 37-yard field goal before the half ran out. The kick gave the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead heading into the locker room.

The Dogs received the kick to start the second half. They would tack on 7 more and eat up half a quarter of clock on a 12-play, 57-yard drive.

Down 17-0, the Buccaneers just had no answers for the ECI offense. The Buccaneers’ QB finally got them on the board with a 77-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs blocked the PAT, making the score 17-6.

On the next possession, the Bulldogs fumbled on a third-and-goal, but the salty ECI defense put the clamps on MCA, forcing a turnover on downs, which essentially iced the victory for the Bulldogs.

ECI improves to 5-1 on the year. P.J. Farnum and Daquan Jones rushed for 238 yards combined with each having a touchdown.

The Bulldogs travel to Claxton this week for a clash with the Tigers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
