ECI men’s golf completes season, heads to state championship

By Mike Williams

The ECI men’s golf team will be competing in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Golf Championship May 16-18 at The National Golf Course Lake Oconee. The team advanced to the championship by finishing runner-up in Region 2A on Monday, April 26, at Willow Lake Golf Course in Metter.

After having their season cut short last year because of COVID, the team worked hard to prepare themselves for this season. Several of the players played in individual and team tournaments during the off season as well as having lessons from head golf professionals in the area.

As coach, I am really proud of the team for practicing and getting ready for this season. Their hard work is evident with their participation in the state tournament.

The team consists of seniors Bailey Sause and Kendal Wiggins, junior Ethan Holloway, and sophomores Bryson Barrett and Austin Robertson.

Also representing and competing as an individual for the ECI women’s golf team in the state championship will be Anna Kate Beasley, who finished as low medalist in the region tournament in Metter.

Anna Kate has worked very hard during the off season, putting in many hours of practice and getting numerous lessons from head golf professional at Willow Lake, Greg Wolff, which is evident by her showing at region and participation in the state tournament at Lake Oconee.

I look forward to the team and Anna Kate traveling to Lake Oconee and playing on this challenging layout. The course will be visually different from the courses we usually play in the area and will test their skills, which is always exciting to watch.
