ECI Middle School baseball starts season 1-1
By Justin Gray
The ECI Middle School Baseball Team opened up their season this past weekend in the Citizens Bank Invitational Tournament. On the schedule were Toombs County and Swainsboro.
Toombs County is a familiar foe for the Dawgs, as that’s who they were defeated by in the semi-finals of the playoffs last season. The Dawgs were hoping for revenge in this one, but fell just short losing 8-2. Ab Marsh started the game for the Dawgs pitching four innings and striking out six, he was also one of the leading hitters.
The Dawgs needed to bounce back in the nightcap against Swainsboro. That they did, behind Judson Underwood and Davis Johnson’s combined one-hitter, they also struck out a combined 19 batters in the shutout. The bats got hot in the 8-0 win as Marsh went 3-4 with a two-run home run and Underwood went 1-4 with a two-run home run as well. Underwood picked up the victory on the mound. The Bulldogs split the day, which is never easy in the first two games.
The Bulldogs will return to action this week against William James and South
Tattnall.
