ECI MS falls short in championship

By Justin Gray The ECI Middle School Baseball team began their playoffs last week as the number one seed from their side. They were set to have a tough schedule to get to the title game.

In the quarterfinals, they took on Bryan County and rolled over them with a 19-9 win behind the bats of Davis Johnson who went 5-5 with two doubles and two RBI and Brayden Rich who went 4-5 with three doubles and three RNI. Judson Underwood also added a homer on the day. Johnson was the winning pitcher going 3.1 innings allowing two earned runs and striking out five.

In the semifinals they had to face a familiar foe and rival Metter. The Bulldogs defeated Metter twice already, so they were confident going into the game.

The Bulldogs took down Metter once again 9-4. Underwood got the start going four innings, striking out five and allowing only three runs. Johnson came in relief with shutdown innings. Ab Marsh dominated at the plate going 3-4 with home run and two RBI. This meant there was only one team left in the way of the title, and that was Toombs. Toombs was undefeated on the season and number one on the other side. The Bulldogs held down Toombs into the fourth inning up 3-2. The Bulldogs held on as long as they could but Toombs’ got on fire and they rolled on to 13-3 win.

Region runner-ups is nothing to hang your heads about in one of the toughest regions around. Congratulations on the amazing season Bulldogs!
