ECI Softball Hangs Tough Through Busy Week
By Justin Gray

The Lady Dawgs just played their toughest and busiest week of their schedule and came out with a 2-3 record.
They started off the week playing a good Vidalia team and dropped a close one 6-2. Then they played four games in two days. No matter who you play, that isn’t easy and on top of that they played four really good teams.
The first of two games on Friday was against Flowery Branch (AAAAA) and the Dawgs took that one easily 7-2. The second game of the day was against Lambert (AAAAAAA) and the Dawgs fell short in this one 5-1. This left two more good games on Saturday against Hebron Christian Academy (AAA) and South Effingham (AAAAAA).
The first one the Dawgs squeaked out a close one against Hebron Christian winning 4-2. In the second game, they lost a hard fought battle against a really good South Effingham team 5-3.
The Lady Dawgs finish the first part of the schedule 8-4. The Dawgs offense as a whole is batting an astounding .335 average. Some leaders for the Dawgs on offense are Shayla Stephenson, Jayna Kearson, Charla Clifton, and Kelsey Harper.
The Dawgs pitching has been just as good with a staff ERA of 3.23 behind the arms of Charla Clifton and Sullee Boddiford.
They start region play this week against Bryan County at home and McIntosh County Academy on the road. Then, they finish up the week against Bacon County and Lowndes on Saturday.
