ECI takes third at region one-act play competition

Emanuel County Institute’s one-act play team traveled to Claxton a few weeks ago and performed at the region competition. By the end of the day, the team had secured a third place finish. In addition, Silas Frew was recognized as an all-star cast member for his acting.

The performance brought to a close the 2021 season, but coach Dena Walden says she is hopeful to get her cast and crew together once more and put on a show for the community. This was the first year one-act play had returned to ECI’s slate of GHSA-sanctioned sports in many years.

The final stage cast consisted of freshmen Smith Willoughby, Hallie Kate Johnson, Jacorra Tuner, and Allie Rigdon; juniors Macie McBride, Braxton Jones, Jay Myers, and Will Taylor; and one senior, Frew.

The backstage crews made up of an honorary stagehand, an eighth grader by the name Makaileigh Handsom; freshmen Clorinda Carillo, Madalyn Jones, and Aaralyn Grimes; and sophomores Aliya McCoy, Amber Harden, Will Sasser, and Alaina Conley.

Georgia Military College won the Class A Public state championship with its “Bullets Over Broadway” production in late November.
