ECI wins Region Title in dominant fashion
By Justin Gray
This past week was Spring Break for the Emanuel County School Systems, but the Bulldogs didn’t let that affect the task at hand, they had a Region Title to win. They would have to get through Portal to do so.
Game one was at home and the Bulldogs came out firing on all cylinders behind their ace Bryce Kearson, who was outstanding, going five innings allowing one hit and striking out 12. Kearson helped himself at the plate going 4-4 with two RBI. PJ Farnum also had a good day going 2-2 with two RBI in the 11-0 win.
Game two was in Portal and the Dawgs picked up right where they left off. They handed the ball to Jacob Durden who made lightwork of the Panthers going seven innings allowing three hits and striking out seven en route to picking up the win. Senior Lawson Mercer had one of his best days at the plate going 3-5 with two RBI and a homer. The Bulldogs rolled to a 15-2 win and a Region Title.
Game three was supposed to immediately follow that, but Portal elected to forfeit the game meaning the Dawgs swept the series and improved to an undefeated 9-0 record. The Bulldogs have been on quite the tear this season and they are a force to reckon with.
As mentioned, they are Region Champs, but have to finish out the Region schedule against Montgomery County this week to attempt to go perfect in Region play. Montgomery County is 3-17 overall and 0-9 in region play.
Game one was played at Montgomery County on Tuesday, April 11. Games two and three will be at home on Thursday, April 13. Go watch the Dawgs make history!
