Edna T. Averett, 82

Funeral services for Edna T. Averett, 82 of Swainsboro, were held Friday, September 3, 2021 at 4 p.m. at Kite Church of God with Reverend Allen Meeks and Dr. Bill Perry officiating. The body laid in state one hour prior to service, and interment followed at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. There was open visitation Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. The family, however, was not present during this time due to COVID precautions. She passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following an extended illness.
Mrs. Edna T. Averett was born February 19, 1939 in Kite to Champ Tapley and Pauline Horton Tapley. She loved talking to friends, shopping, and eating out with family. She also loved her family and was always concerned about others. Further, Mrs. Averett enjoyed buying and collecting pocketbooks. She worked at Sportswear and Allied Department Store as assistant manager for a number of years, and she was a member of Kite Church of God and attended Twin City First Baptist Church for eight years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Robert Averett; grandsons, Shannon Averett and Chad McCoy; brother, Hubert Tapley; and sisters, Doris Barrow and Jacqueline Johnson.
Survivors include her son, Edward (Carolyn) Averett of Swainsboro; daughter, Ann Johnson of Swainsboro; brother, Richard Tapley of Oak Park; sister, JoAnn Godfrey of Kite; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers were Bryan Akridge, Jeremy Averett, Champ Averett, Shane Averett, Wes Averett, and Jeremiah Johnson.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
