Swainsboro Rotary Club had a special guest attend its meeting last week. Dr. David Schecter, the new president of East Georgia State College, joined the Rotarians after an invitation from member Dr. Sandra Sharman.
During his time with the Rotary Club, Dr. Schecter informed the group about his educational and professional backgrounds.
He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida; a master’s degree in political science as well as a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and history, both from Florida State University; and an MBA from Fresno State.
Prior to joining EGSC, Dr. Schecter served as provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of South Carolina – Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina. There, he managed a $38 million budget, administered a department with 686 employees, and supervised the deans of schools, college, and the library.
Dr. Schecter says he is excited to be in Swainsboro and the opportunity to focus on two areas, student success and community engagement.
Guy Singletary called the January 31 meeting to order, filling in for President Jessica Peebles’s absence due to her recent delivery of a new baby girl.
The Rotarians will next meet Monday, February 7.
