Emanuel County Institute: There is strength in unity!

By ANETRIA EDENFIELD, Principal

Welcome back! We are incredibly excited to begin a new year here at Emanuel County Institute! This promises to be a year filled with many opportunities for our students as we work hard to find new and better ways to help our students grow as we are entering our first “normal” school year since the pandemic. Much planning and hard work have gone into preparing for a successful school year here at ECI; we will be working with all TOGETHER to ensure a great start! We embark on this journey with a pledge to you, our students and parents, that this year will be the best year ever, filled with engaging, meaningful, and rigorous work in our classrooms, combined with special events and a plethora of extracurricular clubs and activities, performing arts groups, and athletic teams certain to encourage our Dawgs to be involved and stay connected! We pledge to work TOGETHER this year with a unified front. As Mattie Stepanek once said, “Unity is strength…when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” At ECI, we will achieve wonderful things!

Our staff of highly qualified professional educators and support personnel is committed to providing our students with many opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. We invite and encourage students and parents to work in partnership with us to seize opportunities in all five facets of our ECI program—academics, the arts, athletics, activities, and altruistic endeavors.

We look forward to a very positive and productive year together! We extend a special, year-long invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. We want you to take advantage of opportunities to be involved and support your child’s education. Your active participation is the key to success for your young Dawg during his/ her middle & high school career. We value home and school communication here at ECI. It is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s academic career. We encourage you to contact us if and when the need arises and to stay “in the know” about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings. We ask that you follow us on Twitter @bulldogs_eci and our Facebook page, Emanuel County Institute. We will be posting important information about upcoming events.

Brooke Frye will be returning as one of our assistant principals. She is student-centered and has a warm, nurturing personality that our staff, students, and families have appreciated. Brooke and her husband, Peyton, have two children, Lawson (11) and Anna Caroline (9).

We will be adding a new assistant principal & athletic director this year, Mr. Corian Roberson. He is married to Befaney, and they have three children, Corian Roberson Jr. (CJ) (14), Taylor (13), and Daniel Roberson (6). Mr. Roberson is excited about this new journey in his career and is looking forward to building relationships with the students, faculty & staff and community this year.

This will be my 24th year in education and my fourth year as principal. I have previously served as assistant principal, media specialist, and business education teacher before becoming principal. I am excited to continue to work hard to help move ECI forward! I am married to Kevin, and we have two children, Gavin (22) and Zera (20).

Again, we welcome you to the 2022-2023 school term at Emanuel County Institute. Our school is a place alive with much energy, enthusiasm, and a high standard of excellence! It is, indeed, a place where opportunities are endless. Here’s to an awesome new school year as we all work TOGETHER to make our school a great place to work and learn each and every day!

Go Dawgs!
