Is it that time again to get your driver’s license renewed? Do you need a driver’s license? Swainsboro has its own Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) customer service center! Open on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the center offers a variety of services such as first issuance, renewals, license replacements, out-of-state transfers, reinstatements, and more!
First, if you plan to visit the center, you must fill out a required license/ID/permit form on dds.georgia.gov and schedule an appointment. Testing information requires that your exams must begin 30 to 45 minutes before the center closes in order to have adequate time for testing and issuance.
To obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license, you must bring:
1. Proof of identity — U.S. citizens (1)
2. Proof of name change (only required if name has ever changed)
3. Social Security card (1)
4. Georgia residency proof (2)
5. Proof of identity and lawful status (non-U.S. only)
6. $35 regular license fee
Before testing begins, there is a $10 non-refundable permit fee that must be paid.
To renew your license, you can do that online at dds.georgia.gov or visit Swainsboro’s center. To qualify for license renewal, you must already hold a non-commercial driver’s license. If you have a commercial driver’s license, it must be done in person. If you are over 64-years-old, you must pass an additional vision exam. If you are unable to visit, your vision exam may be submitted via fax or mail.
