During a recent meeting of Swainsboro Kiwanis Club at Rustic Grill, Kiwanian Tammy Allen spoke to the assembled about Emanuel County Family Connection, a program which she leads in her full-time job as coordinator.
Specifically, Allen spoke about the literacy and nutrition events Family Connection has organized the past two years. The Kiwanians learned about the great support of the Mill Creek Foundation during this talk. They also learned about the Ferst Reading Program, the “Livin’ La Vita Okra” in the Farm to School Program, the “Charlie Cart” cooking skills mobile kitchen, the walking program supported by a SHAPE grant, and the WIC Matters Grant. The program also highlighted the The Book-A-Ween, Christmas, and Dr. Suess’ birthday reading programs. On a similar note, Allen thanked the local Kiwanis Club for its participating in these programs.
Wrapping up the program, Allen handed out prizes to Anita Cerpovicz and Tim Goodman for winning a quiz about Family Connection.
In other meeting news, the chocolate layered cake baked by Michelle Bedgood and donated by Pepper Fields brought a record $93; lucky winner Jeff Brewer took home the confection.
Jim Daughtry won the pizza donated by Dominos, and Petite Garrett won the fall decoration up for grabs. Paul Cerpovicz won the Halloween Trivia Contest.
President Dianna Wedincamp reminded members the club would support the trunk-or-treat at Franklin Memorial Library on October 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. as well as the trunk-or-treat at the 4-H clubhouse on October 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. She also asked members to keep the family of deceased Kiwanian Linda Dekle Lamb as well as the family of Deana Patrick’s deceased sister in thought and prayer.
Lastly, Anita Cerpovicz announced the Circle K Hurricane Relief Car Wash at the local state college had raised $389 this year, a record for the fundraising event.
Twenty-nine members attended the meeting.
