Free adoptions through end of February, thanks to humane society

Looking for a furry friend? Take advantage of the free adoptions going on at Betty Gambrell Animal Shelter now. According to Barb Moore with the Emanuel County Humane Society, the local philanthropic organization working toward the good of animals is taking care of the fees associated with adopting a new dog from the facility located at 343 Market Street in town.

There are currently several dogs dubbed critical and need new homes. The humane society hopes this effort, which will run through the end of February, will encourage individuals and/or families to give these dogs a chance. Thanks to the humane society, this special offer will cover the cost of the adoption fee, the necessary rabies shot, and the spay/neuter of the animal prior to joining his or her new home.

To visit the shelter and see these dogs yourself, hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The shelter can be reached at 478-237-4040 as well.

The end date for the initiative is this coming Monday.
