Free wins literary state championship

David Emanuel Academy has produced a state champion literary competitor. Peyton Free, a junior, won the 2022 GAPPS Division I Literary State Championship held March 11 at Mikado Baptist Church in Macon.

Free competed in the Personal Essay category.

David Emanuel saw one other student compete at the state level that day: Emma LaiTyam took third in U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking.

Free and LaiTyam advanced to state by qualifying at the prerequisite level. In the same categories in which they competed at the state level, both Free and LaiTyam took second at the region competition the first week of March.

LaiTyam earned another region honor as well, taking third in International Extemporaneous Speaking at region.

Two other DEA students competed at region, too. Ben Bennett finished second in Humorous Interpretation while Ann Carol Daniel placed third in Argumentative Essay.
