The Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center on the Swainsboro campus of East Georgia State College will hold a variety of camps this summer to serve the area’s youth. Because of COVID-19 and safety precautions, camp enrollment will be limited this year. Campers will be required to wear face masks and have their temperature taken when they are dropped off at camp.
To kick off the 2021 summer camps, the Emanuel Arts Council will be hosting an art camp June 7-9, 2021. This camp will be from 9:00 a.m. until noon for rising third through fifth grades. Twenty camp scholarships are available through a grant from the Mill Creek Foundation on a first-come, first-serve basis. The annual camp will focus on drawing, painting, and creativity! Campers will learn about tempera paint, intensity by way of color saturation, focus on details, and much more. This camp is full of guided learning experiences designed to maximize each child’s creativity.
From June 15-18, Discovery STEM Camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon. This camp is open to rising third through fifth graders and participation is limited to 20 campers. The cost of the camp is $125. During this four-day camp, students will take part in engineering design challenges and learn about related STEM careers. Real world connections will be made for each student, and they will also set their own STEM career goals! This camp is hosted by Magnolia Midlands Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers (GYSTC).
From June 28-30, 2021 Astronomy Camp will be hosted by the Fulford Center and Magnolia Midlands GYSTC. The camp is from 8:30 a.m. until noon each day and is available from rising first and second grades. The camp is $30, and participation is limited to 20 campers. In its ninth year at the Fulford Center, Camp Invention will be held July 12-16 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. for rising grades three through six. Registration for this camp is conducted through local schools. Camp Invention is a nationally recognized unique summer opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and math through exciting hands-on activities. At Camp Invention, campers will learn how to think like inventors, problem-solve, collaborate and create. Scholarships are provided through Nordson Corporation, and the maximum number of campers is 50.
All camps will be held at the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center, except Camp Invention. To accommodate the 50 participants and to follow social distancing guidelines, Camp Invention will be held at the Jean Anderson Morgan Student Center on the campus of East Georgia State College.
