Harrison wins Miss ECI crown

Emanuel County Institute held its 2022 pageant February 5, and one lucky lady was crowned queen by the end of the evening.

Aubrey Harrison, a junior, won the title of Miss ECI 2022. Halli Kate Johnson earned first runner-up, Sullee Biddeford took second runner-up, Taylor Flakes received third runner-up, and Grace Elaine Swygert rounded out the high school court, finishing fourth runner-up.

“Wearing the crown of Miss ECI truly makes me feel like a queen! Winning isn’t all about how you look, how pretty your dress was, or who did your spray tan. Winning is about carrying yourself with poise and grace and having a good servant heart,” Harrison said. “A queen should also not boast nor be too prideful. From my view, the crown means a great deal of responsibility. One should want to represent her title properly. Prior to competing, I was chosen Contestant #7. As mentioned throughout the Bible, 7 is a perfect number. I am here to say I am not perfect, but as your 2022 Miss ECI, I will strive to be my best.”

About the crowning moment, Harrison continued, “When awards were being called, I prayed. I prayed that no matter who wins, each and every girl would know how beautiful they really are. When the first runner-up was called and it wasn’t my name, all I could do was smile. In that moment, I was humbled. I hadn’t done a pageant in years. I didn’t want to win because I didn’t want others to feel undeserving. I saw my daddy shed a tear from the audience, and it made my heart smile. I knew my prayers were answered. Thank you all!”

Emanuel County Institute selected its newest Junior Miss ECI that same evening. Aniston O’Dell was crowned the winner, and her court was as follows: Alyssa Barnes, first runner-up; Jlynn Hicks, second runner-up; Charley Mitchell, third runner-up; and Amelia Meadows, fourth runner-up.
