The future of the race for Swainsboro mayor could be heavily impacted next week as two of the hopefuls, (named in this story alphabetically by surname) Greg Bennett and Shayna Boston, have been summoned to hearings at the Emanuel County Commissioners’ Board Room inside the John C. Coleman Hotel next week.
Both candidates received letters early last week, informing them that a challenge had been issued in regard to their candidacy. Specifically, 20 individuals had challenged an issue, their residencies in Swainsboro, as stated in the City of Swainsboro’s charter.
The hearings will be held separately for the two candidates during the afternoon hours of September 15, 2021. Bennett will appear first at 4:45 p.m., and Boston’s hearing will follow at 5:15 p.m.
The hearings will be open to the public. However, given The Chronicle’s Tuesday deadline for the Wednesday, September 15, edition, a comprehensive story about the proceedings will not be available for publication until Wednesday, September 22. In the meantime, stay tuned to The Chronicle on Facebook for a brief update.
