Memorial services for Helen Brett Schmid, 84 of Swainsboro, were held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Tillman & Rev. Kale Pressey officiating. Visitation was held Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends Friday, April 23, 2021 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mr. William & Mrs. Sandy Brett’s residence (1053 Cow Ford Bridge Rd., Kite, GA 31049). She passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Emanuel County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Ms. Helen Brett Schmid was born May 3, 1936 in Midville, Burke County to the late Lintorn A. Brett and Gertrude Flanders. She loved her grandchildren. She also loved reading, especially in her Bible, and she loved to share her Faith. Ms. Schmid was a member of Hawhammock Baptist Church. She graduated from Georgia Baptist Nursing Program and later got her master’s degree in adult education. She then went and taught nursing at Southeastern Technical College and worked at Emanuel Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Schmid; daughter, Esther Bristow; brother, Lintorn Brett; and sister, Ann Brett.
Survivors include her sons, Andrew Scott Schmid and Stuart Watson (Lorraine); grandchildren, Erin Watson, Glynis Watson, Colleen Watson, Jack Watson, Nicholas Dominquez, Clay Williams, Bailey Bristow, Sam Schmid, and Eli Schmid; one great-grandchild; brothers, Henry Brett (Janet), Bobby Brett (Betty Ann), and William Brett (Sandy); and sister, Mary Gayle Farrar.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
