Hiding God’s word in your heart

By Danny Coleman Jr.

The Word of God is something that we have been given by God that is more precious than anything. I have learned throughout my life that most of the time you can count on your fingers the truly precious things in life. Some of the truly precious things I think of are my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Word of God, my wife, my kids, my parents, my extended family, and my friends.

The purpose of this article is not to list what’s precious to me, the purpose of this article is to share something with you that has helped me throughout my life in hopes that it can help you too. The Psalmist David says in God’s Word in Psalms 119:11(KJV) “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” We live in a country where the Word of God is available everywhere. The Bible is the Word of God, the Creator of everything. The Bible tells us how to handle everything in life we will ever face. I have learned that during the hardest times in my life is when I need to know God’s Word the most. We live in a world where many people believe truth is not absolute, however there is an absolute truth and that is God’s Word. John 17:17(KJV) says “Sanctify them through thy Truth, thy word is Truth.”

According to John 8:32(KJV), “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” If you want to be free you must know Truth. To hide God’s Word in your heart you must read it and learn it. This is something I have started working on recently, scripture memorization, because one day the Bible will not be so easily accessible as it is now. Then only what is hid in your heart is what you will have.

Going back to Psalms 119:11, the second part of that verse says “that I might not sin against thee.” If you want to stop sinning, the key is in the Bible. You just need to open it and read it. I know the Bible can sometimes seem hard to understand but that is why God sent us the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us understand. So, if you are having trouble understanding the Bible then pray and ask God for understanding.

I don’t want to leave you without the most important thing, something more important than anything in this world. I would like to ask you a question that I read once, “If you died tonight are you sure where you will spend eternity?” There is only two choices Heaven or Hell. The Bible says in 1 John 5:13(KJV), “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

So, you see we can know if we are going to Heaven or not. If you are not sure that you are on your way to Heaven then I would encourage you to get your Bible out and look up these verses in this order, Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, and Romans 10:13. After reading these verses if you are not sure you are saved then I would encourage you to bow your head and call out to God asking Him to save you. Just bow your head, confess that you are a sinner, and ask for His forgiveness. Then start walking with Jesus every day.

Things are not always easy in this life, but if you have Christ, you can overcome this life. The Bible says in Philippians 4:13(KJV), “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” This is a verse I have hid in my heart for the tough times I face in my life. If you prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then please write me an email at living4jesusatthecrossroads@gmail.com so that I can pray for you. We all need prayer and I would love to be able to pray for you. Be Blessed!
