High school football kicking off with summer workouts

By: Justin Gray

For most students, they have been enjoying their summer and relaxing for almost two month, but not for these hardworking young men who have been working out for weeks now. Our local high schools Swainsboro, Emanuel County Institute, and David Emanuel Academy football teams are all looking forward to great seasons. All three schools are coming off of years where they made the playoffs and all won at least one game. ECI and DEA both won their first games and fell short in the second round. Swainsboro is coming off of a final four run and looks to do the same this year. DEA is returning two, two-time all state players in Jesse Moore and Racyn Faircloth along with three-year starters Ace Ely, Heath Johnson, Justin Newsome, Ebb McCullough and Riley Griner. ECI has a good mix of upperclassmen along with some young guys who need some work to get ready. Swainsboro is returning a large number of the team from last season more than Coach Scott Roberts has ever had. “These kids are program kids that care about each other and want to be great.” Coach Roberts said. The biggest thing for the Tigers is going to be staying healthy. We are looking forward to watching all three schools compete this season!
