Swainsboro•Opoloy, like the name alludes to, is an adaptation of the classic board game, Monopoly, to celebrate Swainsboro, Georgia.
This unique creation uses local businesses, places, and events to create the 40 stops on the game route. We won’t give away all the secrets (because what fun would that be?), but some examples of the mentions on the board include: the Pine Tree Festival, downtown Swainsboro, the Emanuel County Airport, and Birds Wings & Things.
City-specific versions of Monopoly like Swainsboro•Opoly began popping up in nearby towns earlier this year. Swainsboro Walmart put its first shipment out on display last month. If you’re interested in purchasing your own Swainsboro•Opoly, stop by the local Walmart. As of Tuesday, June 8, the display was situated on the right side of Walmart, the side nearest the pharmacy. Look straight ahead when you enter and the games should be on the endcap in front of the self-checkouts.
Once you’ve got your Swainsboro•Opoly in hand, be sure to read the gameplay instructions before you begin because the rules vary a little compared to the original Monopoly game. Most importantly, have fun and consider visiting the places and patronizing the businesses you notice along the way!
