"I Hate Religion"

I hope I have your attention and yes, you read the title of this article correctly. I HATE RELIGION, let me explain to you why. First, let me say this, I don't hate holiness, righteousness, or goodness, and yes I believe that as a child of God we should be separate from the world, and yes I believe that we should have standards and take stands but all of this has nothing to do with religion.

According to Matthew chapter twenty-three in verses twenty-five through twenty-seven, we see the most “religious” folks in the whole Bible yet Jesus was not pleased or impressed with them, AT ALL.

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”

According to Websters, the word religion means to bind and it was used to signify an oath or vow to the gods and was held very sacred by the Romans.

First off, I believe in one God! There is no option when it comes to the God of the Bible, there is no option when it comes to His Words, there is no option when it comes to His Way! Second, I don't believe God is interested in binding you back up when He just saved you and broke the bondage of sin. Does God want us to live right? Absolutely! He says, be ye holy for I am holy.

I believe Matthew chapter twenty-three is a warning from God saying, Just because your religion doesn't mean you're right. I mean, these were the religious leaders but Christ is telling them how nasty they are on the inside! Now, this is where the meat of the message is. Religion often times focuses and puts an emphasis on the outside while clearly, we see all through scripture that God is concerned about the inside.

Romans chapter ten and verse ten say, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.”

Here in our main text of Matthew chapter twenty-three, the Lord is saying, take care of the inside and the outside will come together.

This is why I hate religion. Religion doesn't do anything for a man's sin problem. I have never seen a drunk or drug addict get “religious” and it truly fix anything but dear reader I have seen the drunk and drug addict hear the Word of God and the Holy Spirit shows them that they are a sinner and they need Christ because all they have of themselves is filthy rags and they accept Christ and put their faith and trust in what Christ did on the cross of Calvary and their whole life change!

John chapter fifteen and verses four through five say, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

The bottom line is this. It is not about religion but a relationship. Are you abiding in Christ today? Abiding means settling into something, like when you move into a house. Before you can settle down you have to enter in. How do you enter into this relationship?

Believe you are a sinner, believe He is the Savior and He died on the cross was buried and rose again and He did for you, and then put your faith and trust in what He did on the cross.

Stop trying to be religious and accept Christ’s invitation today!
