Funeral services for James Earl Sherrod Sr., 74 of Stillmore, were held Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend James Ervin Stapleton officiating. Interment followed at Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. He passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at AU Medical Center in Augusta following an extended illness.
Mr. James Earl Sherrod Sr. was born October 16, 1946 in Graymont to the late Oliver Sherrod Sr. and Annie Mae Alcott Sherrod. He loved to fish, watch sports, and spend time with his family. Mr. Sherrod, a Baptist by faith, was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Gloria Sherrod; brothers, Bud Sherrod, Oliver Sherrod Jr., Green Sherrod, and Billy Sherrod; sisters, Annie Ruth Oglesby, Margaret Brown, and Jeanette Boatright; son-in-law, Curtis Beckum; and great-grandson, Grant Elliott Hill.
Survivors include his sons, James Earl Sherrod Jr. of Stillmore and Ronnie Sherrod (Teresa Holloway) of Metter; daughters, Shirley (James) Stapleton and Cindy (Kenneth) Moore, both of Swainsboro, Dorothy Beckum of Aline, and Cynthia Sherrod of Stillmore; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Pallbearers were Jesse Brown, Dale Brown, Jonathan Slater, Mark Slater, Kevin Slater, and Dylan Slater.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
