Funeral services for Janis Hopkins Drake, resident of Midville, were held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Midville Baptist Church with Reverend Daryl Cox and Reverend Terry Quick officiating. Interment followed at Hawhammock Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at Tomlinson Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. She died Sunday, May 2, 2021 in Augusta.
Ms. Janis Hopkins Drake was born in Emanuel County, daughter of the late Elzie Hopkins and Emma Hutcheson Hopkins. She attended Midville Baptist Church, where she was very faithful in attending Sunday school and worship services. She also sang in the choir. Ms. Drake was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Ray Hopkins, Thomas Hopkins, and Wendell Hopkins; her sister, Shelba Jean Hopkins Hall; and her husband, William “Billy” Drake.
Survivors include her sister, Nell West, three sisters-in-law, Gail Edenfield, Gail Drake, and Susie Bishop; several nieces and nephews; and her “fur babies,” Scooter, Jill, Drake, Ralph, and Packey.
Pallbearers were Scotty Hall, Darrell Hall, David “Spec” Hall, David Hopkins, Nicky Drake, Jeff Drake, Micky Frederick, and Landan Frederick.
Tomlinson Funeral Home and Crematory of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
