Funeral services for Jean Edenfield Clifton, 95, wife of the late James Arthur Clifton will begin Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Swainsboro with Dr. Robert Blankenship and Pastor Casey Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Elam Baptist Church Cemetery (5199 Elam Road, Millen). Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Saturday, March 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. She passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at her residence.
Mrs. Jean Edenfield Clifton was born April 29, 1925 in Emanuel County, daughter of the late William Edenfield and Annie Page Edenfield. She graduated from Emanuel County Institute in Twin City in 1943. She was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class, First Baptist, Swainsboro and the Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter of the NSDAR. She was a loving mother, Mema to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who knew her. Mrs. Clifton enjoyed her years at Oak Island Crabhouse, meeting people from everywhere. People always wanted to know, ”Where is Mema?” Her yard was her joy; pulling weeds was a labor of love to her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. Veda Lewis, Mrs. Mary Lou Willis, Mrs. Lois Lawson McClain, Mrs. Alma Curl, and Mrs. Billie Lanier, and her brothers, Mr. Ted Edenfield, Mr. Roy Edenfield, Mr. Snook Edenfield, and Mr. Jake Edenfield.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lydia Rountree (Mike), Mrs. Patricia Williams (Ricky), Mrs. Debbie Williams (Dale), and Mrs. Diane Griffin (Skip); one son, Mr. Jim Clifton (Sherri); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Mr. Michael Rountree, Mr. David Rountree, Mr. Bryan Rountree, Mr. John Preston Williams, Mr. Davis Griffin, and Mr. Cody Clifton as well as great-grandsons Mr. Nate Gleaton and Mr. Spencer Lawrence. Great-grandson Mr. Sam Lawrence will hand out programs.
