She was laid to rest in the Ricks Family Cemetery. Mrs. Jeanette Kappers Rice, beloved wife of Jerry Keith Rice, passed away Thursday evening, January 13, 2022 at her home in Douglasville.
Born in New York City, New York, Mrs. Jeanette Kappers Rice was one of three children born to the late John William Kappers and Mary Etta Ricks Kappers. At an early age, the family moved to Pennsylvania and Elyria, Ohio. “Jeanie” graduated from Elyria High School in the mid-1960s. While attending high school, she attended and graduated from beauty school. Upon graduating with her diploma in cosmetology, Mrs. Rice had excelled to the point that she was offered a position by the owner and instructor of the school. She worked as a beautician until her years of mothering began. In 1967, she met and captured the heart of West Virginia native and recently discharged Vietnam veteran Jerry Keith Rice. They married in 1968 and remained in Elyria until moving to Savannah for job opportunities in the late 1970s. They remained in the Savannah/Pooler area until locating to Atlanta and subsequently Douglasville in October 1980.
While raising their two children, Mrs. Rice was always involved in the kid’s school activities, whether it be as a room mother, chairman of holiday celebrations, or any event that involved nurturing her children and their classmates.
She enjoyed decorating her home, shopping trips, exploring innovative ideas and vision for creating new looks in her present surroundings as well as settling down with a good book.
The Rice Family had been members at the First United Methodist Church of Douglasville until moving their memberships to the First United Methodist Church of Bremen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her and her husband’s only daughter, Lindsey Rice Myers (who passed away on December 1, 2005), and a brother, John Kappers.
Mrs. Rice leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Jerry Keith Rice, Douglasville; their son, Keith Rice and his wife Heather, Acworth; her last remaining sibling, Alice Kappers of Acworth; and three beloved grandchildren, Victoria “Tori” Kappers, Payton Rice, and Rutledge Rice.
Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
