John Christopher “Chris” Grindler, 69


A family memorial service for John Christopher “Chris” Grindler, 69 of Swainsboro, will be held privately at a later date. The family expresses their appreciation for honoring their wishes at this time. The family will, however, receive friends Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Grindler, simply known as “Chris,” was born April 8, 1952 in Savannah to the late Ernest A. and Kathryne Spivey Grindler. He was a 1972 graduate of Swainsboro High School and attended Brewton-Parker College. In 1995, Mr. Grindler retired from Spivey State Bank. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Swainsboro Golf and Country Club. Mr. Grindler was a bright spirit, had a contagious enthusiasm for life, and was loved by and loved many in return. A member of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Betty Vereen Hill, and sister-in-law Martha Grindler.

Survivors include his wife, Vanessa Hill Grindler of Swainsboro; three stepsons, Zachary Jones (Laura), Christopher Jones, and Casey Jones, all of Swainsboro; one brother, Alex Grindler of Statesboro; special niece and nephew, Liz Bland and Jim Grindler (Shannon); great-nieces, Carson Caroline Grindler and Laurabeth Bland; cousin, John Spivey Rountree (Susan); and beloved fur babies, Toby and Teddy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gray Thurman, Carson Cross, Don Flanders, Jerry Woods, and Bob Youmans.

Durden-Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
