John Louis “Chief” Lane, 65


Funeral services for John Louis “Chief” Lane, 65 of Canoochee, were held Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Canoochee Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Wiggins and Mr. Leroy Lane officiating. Interment followed at Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, December 6, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. He passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Candler County Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Johnny Louis “Chief” Lane was born May 31, 1956 in Swainsboro to the late David M. Lane and Jean Bunn Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother David Terry Lane and sister Bonnie Lane Jones.


Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Donna Lane of Canoochee; son, John David Lane (Faith Patrick) of Canoochee; daughters, Brandi Hood (Randy) and Misty Lane (Nick Beasley), both of Swainsboro, Kelly Collins (Bryson) of Metter, and Hope Jones (Bowen) of Stillmore; sister, Becky Johnson (Steve) of Canoochee; grandchildren, Macy Messex (Drew), Mason McKenzie, Joeley Hood, Erin Hood, Riley McKenzie, Reagan McKenzie, Cason Collins, Raycen McKenzie, and Carsyn Jones; great-grandchildren, Farrah Jo Messex and Lakelyn Grace Brown; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers were Adam Lane, Rusty Lane, Chase Johnson, Clay Johnson, Leroy Lane, and Stephen White. Honorary pallbearers were Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, Twin City Police Department, Swainsboro Police Department, Sheriff Robert Oglesby, Trooper Payton Riner, Chief Glenn Giles, Chief Curtis Armstrong, and Retired Chief Wayne Cain.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
