Funeral services for Kathy Lloyd Altman, 66 of Roswell, formerly of Swainsboro, will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church (240 W. Main St., Swainsboro, GA 30401) with Rev. Dr. Bob Blankenship and Rev. Casey Shaw officiating. Masks are requested. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors (206 E. Pine St., Swainsboro, GA 30401.) A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Sardis Cemetery near Spanish Creek Road in Folkston with Rev. Hal McIntosh officiating. She died Sunday, August 8, 2021 at home with her husband at her bedside.

Mrs. Kathy Lloyd Altman was born February 3, 1955, the third of six children to the late Lewis and Catherine Lloyd. She grew up in St. Mary’s and graduated from Camden County High School in 1973. Having a compassion for people and nursing, she graduated from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in 1976 with an RN degree. Mrs. Altman began her career at Charlton County Memorial Hospital in Folkston. There, she met the love of her life, Hayward Altman. Their first date was on July 7, 1977; they were engaged July 11, 1977; and were married on April 22, 1978. Moving to Swainsboro in 1983, they raised two children in Swainsboro: Ward and Andrea. Continuing her passion for nursing, Mrs. Altman worked at Emanuel Medical Center, later transferring to Ogeechee Area Detoxification Center and helped many overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol. Kathy worked in hospice and retired from East Georgia Healthcare in 2014 after a 38-year nursing career. Mrs. Altman was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. She was a six-year survivor of stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, and she maintained a smile throughout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving brother-in-law, Gates Elmore.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Hayward Altman of Roswell; two children, Ward Altman (Jamie) of Frisco, Texas and Andrea Byrne (David) of Roswell; four wonderful grandchildren, Mack and Zoey Altman and Lillian and Cora Byrne; five siblings, Gerrie Peeples (Kerry) of Kingsland, Wayne Lloyd of Lake Hartwell, David Lloyd (Pam) of St. Mary’s, Bonnie Elmore of Alpharetta, and Larry Lloyd of Folkston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Escorts will be Mack Altman, David Byrne, Billy Sasser, Tim Martin, Allen Smith, and John Torpy. Honorary escorts will be the Grace Sunday School Class and the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 828, Swainsboro, GA 30401 or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 W. 44th St., Suite 609, New York, NY 10036.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors will be in charge of arrangements.
