Kickoff party at Franklin Memorial officially starts Summer Reading Program

Staff at Franklin Memorial Library in Swainsboro say this year’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) kickoff party on May 27 had a great turnout as numerous parents and children lined up to register for this year’s initiative, themed “Tales & Tails.”

Because the 2021 SRP will be featured online with reading tracker Beanstack, library workers instructed participants how to sign up and maneuver in the program to log their reading. (Paper logs are also available for those who choose not to go digital.) Visitors were also given a sample of what to expect in the form of games and crafts that will be available this summer.

Additionally, the library conducted a ticket giveaway. Jasien Lovett received movie theatre tickets, and Kayla Garrett received Splash in the ‘Boro tickets.

All kickoff party attendees received popcorn, juice, and cotton candy before leaving.

In an effort to encourage everyone in the community to read this summer, Franklin Memorial is giving out free books while supplies last. If you have not gotten your free book yet, stop by the library; the center still has more brand-new books to give away.

The library would also like to extend its gratitude to all the parents and children who attended as well as the many volunteers who showed up to help.
