According to Kyle Collins with Georgia Department of Transportation – East, The Scruggs Company should begin the $1.072 million State Route 57/Kite Road repave from the Johnson County line to U.S. 1 in Emanuel County on Wednesday, August 4.
Crews will setup near the U.S. 1 intersection and work westbound first. Expect daily delays in the project area. All major work must be complete by October of this year.
The Crossroads Chronicle last reported on this project in April. At that time, GDOT – East stated the project should begin sometime in June. The project was let out for bid in November 2020. The aforementioned contractor presented the best bid and was awarded the job in December.
Collins expects majority completion of the lanes to take 1.5 months, dependent on the weather. Because the project only covers 8.4 miles, he added that crews may knock the project out even sooner than the expected approximate 45 days.
