Kiwanis Club holds weekly meeting

President Diana Wedincamp called to order the January 18 meeting of Swainsboro Kiwanis Club at 7 p.m.

The group of 24, including guest Calter Ward, had gathered at Rustic Grill for the occasion and during that time, member Bobbie Daughtry presented a program on a traditional paper-folding model, the origami star box.

Daughtry specifically gave the group instructions and helped all in the crowd complete the craft. Two members, Cheryl Goodman as well as President Wedincamp, completed their star boxes in the allotted timeframe while the others took theirs home to complete later.

In other meeting news, the Kiwanians heard about a prior event which saw someone in the local club recognized.

Just days prior to the meeting last Tuesday, the District 17 Georgia Governor’s Rally took place in Brooklet on Friday, January 14. Governor Byron Mullican awarded Swainsboro Kiwanis Club’s president-elect, Tammy Allen, with the 2022 Governor’s Leadership Medal.

Kiwanian Beth Upchurch of the Metter club was elected 2022-2023 Division 17 Lt. Governor for the Georgia District as well.

Also during the meeting, Jane Durden won a sweet cream pound cake donated by Windy Ward while Sondra Fortner won a pizza donated by Domino’s. Fortner won a basket provided by President Wedincamp as well.
