East Georgia State College’s Lady Bobcat softball team continued to be impressive on the softball diamond this past weekend by winning three of four contests on Saturday and Sunday against Andrew College and USC–Salkehatchie.
East Georgia traveled to Andrew College on Saturday, where they split with Andrew, falling in Game 1 by a score of 3–0. In Game 2, the team bounced back to win 8–5 over Andrew.
With the victory over Andrew, the Lady Bobcats finished the first series of conference play against conference opponents with a record of 10 wins to just two defeats, giving the Lady Bobcats a first place ranking at the mid-point of conference play.
On Sunday, EGSC continued its dominance on the softball diamond by picking up two more victories over USC–Salkehatchie. The Lady Bobcats won Game 1 by a score of 10–5 and Game 2 by a score of 16–7.
“We played really well today both in the field and at the plate,” head coach Chuck Wimberly said after the victories on Sunday against Salkehatchie. “We hit the ball extremely well and we were able to play a lot of people in our victories.”
When asked about the Lady Bobcats’ No. 1 ranking at the mid-point of conference play, Wimberly continued, “We are in a really tough conference, and we have played really well up to this point. We must continue to keep our eye on the prize—that is to make the conference tournament by being one of the top four teams at the end of the regular season. We definitely have put ourselves in a great position through this point of the season, but we must not let up. We have to finish strong.”
