Lady Bobcats on quest for first-ever school berth to national tourney

The East Georgia State College softball team has advanced to the Final 4 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) tournament, which will be played in Locust Grove on May 12 and May 13. The Lady Bobcats will take on Gordon State College in the opening round of the double elimination tournament at noon on Thursday.

The team is looking to become the first team in school history to win the tournament and advance to the national tournament in Arizona at the end of May.

"We have played extremely well all season, and it’s anyone’s tournament to win,” Head Coach Chuck Wimberly stated when asked about the Lady Bobcats’ accomplishments and outlook for the tournament. “All four teams in tournament are 2–2 against each other in the regular season, and it will simply come down to who wants it more in the tournament. We have played some really good ball this season and I am extremely proud of this group for how hard they have fought all season to give themselves this tremendous opportunity.”

The East Georgia State College baseball team’s season ended in the GCAA tournament in Rome on Monday, May 9, against Gordon State College. The Bobcats held a 4–3 lead through 7 innings of play but were unable to hold off Gordon State College in the late innings, falling to Gordon 10–4 in the end.
