Lady Bobcats sweep South Georgia State to secure conference tournament bid

The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcat softball team secured a spot in the 2022 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association State Conference Softball Tournament to be played May 11 through May 13 by sweeping South Georgia State College by a scores of 10–4 in Game 1 and 5–3 in Game 2 this past Friday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Lady Bobcats were led in Game 1 by Britney Foster on the mound, allowing 0 runs through four innings of work. Freshman Cierra Kinlaw came in to close out the fifth through seventh innings and seal the victory for East Georgia.

The Lady Bobcats were led at the plate in Game 1 by a host of hitters led by Summer Alexander and Alyssa Barbrick who each had a double and a single on the day. Bailey Davis, Lexi McQuaig, Dani Wells, and Stephanie Ruffin all had two hit days at the plate in Game 1.

Game 2 was all the Lady Bobcats from the first inning forward as EGSC scored 3 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Kinlaw held South Georgia to just 3 runs in five innings of work with Carly Forrester getting the save and closing out the seventh inning for the Lady Bobcat victory and sweep of South Georgia in Game 2.

McQuaig led all batters in Game 2 with three singles. McKenzie Wilkerson, Barbrick, and Raegan Sterrett each had RBIs for East Georgia in route to the 5–3 victory.

“I am so proud of our team and their accomplishment of securing themselves a bid in the conference tournament in May with the victories over South Georgia State College,” stated Head Coach Chuck Wimberly. “Our team has done so well this season, and I am so proud of the way we have competed all season. Their hard work has earned them a tremendous opportunity to compete for the conference title in the tournament in May.”
