Lady Dawgs headed back to Columbus

Make way! ECI’s Lady Dawgs are headed back to the Columbus, which has become a regular occurrence in the past couple years.

Frank Wimberly’s team defeated the Schley County Wildcats last week at home to advance to the GHSA Class A Elite 8. The Lady Bulldogs put up a total of 9 runs between two games and played stellar defense, allowing only a third of those runs to score between the two contests.

Game 1 was a decisive victory, 6–1. Game 2, on the other hand, went down to the wire with ECI coming out on top 3–2.

Other title contenders in Class A include Crawford County, Lanier County, Gordon Lee, ACE Charter, Social Circle, Telfair County, and Screven County.

The championship runs October 28 through October 30 at the Olympic Softball Complex.

ECI is set to take on Gordon Lee, the reigning state champs, in the opening round on Thursday. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. The Trojans enter play with a 28–3 overall record, advancing to the quarterfinals by defeating ECI rival Johnson County 18–0 and 10–2 last week.
