Lady Tigers run ends in the Elite Eight
By Justin Gray
The Swainsboro Lady Tigers Basketball team headed to Elbert County for an intense Elite Eight matchup. The Lady Tigers knew it would be tough going into this one as they were both one-seeds, but had to play on the road. They got off to a great start as they led at the end of the first quarter 17-13. The second quarter is when they started to see their lead fade as Elbert County started shooting it well and took the lead going into half 28-23. The Lady Tigers got cold from the field, but continued to fight as they made a run to tie the game back up, but they soon found themselves down 45-36, after three quarters of play. Elbert County started to pull away in the fourth quarter and the Lady Tigers fell, 63-49. Junior Tanyia Williams dominated the boards with 19 points and 22 rebounds.
Don’t let this ending to the season take away from all they accomplished. From back-to-back region titles and an Elite Eight run, this season was special. The Lady Tigers have a young team so there is no doubt they will be back, but the Seniors Serah Kelly, Jamia Smith, and Mikala Jackson will be missed dearly. Congratulations on the great season you had Lady Tigers!
