Funeral services for Larry Wade Bedingfield, 80 of Swainsboro, were held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Tidwell, Rev. Nick Hazleton, and Rev. Mark Miller officiating. The family received friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment with military honors followed at Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at his residence.
Mr. Larry Wade Bedingfield was born June 24, 1941 in Nunez, Emanuel County, to the late John “J.S.” Sampson and Gladys Cowart Bedingfield. A 1960 graduate of Swainsboro High School, he retired from Swainsboro Tech, where he taught mechanics for many years before becoming off-campus coordinator and later night school coordinator. Mr. Bedingfield spent 31 years serving in the 265th Engineer Group, retiring as lieutenant colonel with the Army National Guard. He enjoyed hosting “pig-pickins’” for special events as well as sharing his “famous” barbecue sauce with family and friends. He was a member of the Exchange Club as well as Calvary United Methodist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Bedingfield; sister and brother-in-law, Ohma Bedingfield Waters and Newt Waters; sister-in-law, Mary Bedingfield; and mother and father-in-law, Andrew J. and Sara “MaMa Sallie” Johns.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patricia “Pat” Johns Bedingfield of Swainsboro; two daughters, Kim Bedingfield Foskey (Jerry) of Greensboro and Dr. Karen Bedingfield Ross (Dennis) of Swainsboro; brothers, Johnny Bedingfield of Guyton and Jerry Bedingfield (Amy) of Louisville; sister-in-law, Jenny Bedingfield of Texas City, Texas; grandchildren, Walt Foskey (Caitlin), Hope Foskey Davis (Taylor), and Wes Foskey (Cassidy); great-grandchildren, Wells Wade Foskey and Graham Christopher Davis; nieces, nephews, and extended family; and faithful caregivers, JoAnne Williams, Corene Johnson, Laney Claxton, Kathy Hopkins, Victoria Canady, and Cathaleen Ricks.
Bill Carmichael, Charles Flanders, Johnny Hairr, Donny Wilson, Dess Smith, and Marty Payne were pallbearers while Otis Smith, Vaughn Riner, and Randall Kersey were honorary pallbearers.
